Murphy's Law

Last we left off, you were reading about how we safely made it to Columbia without incident (save for a sandstorm). Well, I have been through enough PCS, TDYs, and deployments while my father was active duty to know that our dear friend Murphy would show his face at some point... no one escapes without a visit!

Turns out there was one thing that happened on the trip I just did not know about (my saint of a husband). In Amarillo they ran out of rooms with king sized beds, so even though we had reserved a room with a king a week in advance, we found ourselves in two full sized beds. Whatever, better than being in the car after 12 hours of driving! Moose was a  little stress ball and kept huffing and puffing, and alerting to every single noise all night. At one point I was trying to get him up on the bed but he was too busy sniffing around the floor to care. We fell asleep, kind of, woke up and had some breakfast. I look over and there is a quarter sized spider in Cs bed....NOPE. nopenopenopenopenopenope.

After we got to the next hotel in Atlanta C says "Wow! This place is MUCH nicer than the first, definitely don't have to worry about roaches here." He did not realize what he had said at first...but I picked up on it immediately and just stared at him. "Have we had to worry about roaches anywhere else?" "Remember when Moose wouldn't get on the bed...?"

Great.

Save for that we made it to Columbia without issue.
We spent the first night in a hotel because the apartment (short term) would not be ready until the next day. No problem, we were just happy to have an apartment that would allow us to lease for a few months.
Monday we load the cars back up, check out of the hotel and head to Uhaul to throw the stuff in storage and turn in the trailer. I won't bore you with the details of the guy I was pretty sure was going to pull out a gun in the uhaul parking lot while C was inside, but I will tell you C's phone looked a lot like: "Okay, this guy has been standing on the sidewalk staring directly at me for three minutes, no exaggeration" "He is walking up and down the truck eyeballing it" "Now he is standing next to my passenger door, with his hand in his jacket"
"C if you do not come out right now I am gonna flip, I need an adult, send help"

I am a calm person.

We get into the storage area and start unloading, all the stuff that needs to go in last is coming out of the uhual first...because we were using them until the last possible second. Then it starts to pour. Like absolutely POUR. Great, now our stuff is soaked, and we are soaked, and we don't even have a third of the thing unloaded. we rushed to get everything put in the unit and stopped caring about how it was organized. Half way through, rain pouring around us, soaking wet, we get a call from the complex. There is a problem and we can't move in that day.(The back door leaks when it is raining...badly. Still waiting on that to be fixed) Ugh! You couldn't have called BEFORE we toted everything to the cars and checked out of the hotel?!

We get everything unloaded, get on the phone with a hotel, and get ready to drive over to sign the lease anyways. Poor C clips the front of the truck on a pole. What a day.

The next day C has to go check in a work, so I check out of the hotel, and move the dog and I into the apartment. Luckily all we have is an air mattress...so it wasn't too hard.

Within ten minutes the neighbor (very nicely) greets me, and says "Hey, I record music for people, from home, so it gets a little loud sometimes just let me know if it's too much" Okay, no problem. "We ain't gonna have any problems are we...?" "Uh, no." He says he is joking.

Now every time we leave the apartment we can smell his "music" and I have seen a couple of his customers leaving...always with a mix tape (no really, they always have a cd). As I type this...his bass is booming and the stairwell smells faintly of skunk.

We should be out of here in a month (fingers crossed) and we have a couple of really exciting things to share soon! No, I am not pregnant, no kiddos in this family for a few years. Stay Tuned, and I can't wait to show you pictures of the apartment.
